How to Make a Baby Keepsake Box

Choosing your box

Your baby keepsake box can be as simple or elaborate as you like - think about where you'll store it and what size is ideal for your space, as well as what types of items you may want to include. Savor baby keepsake boxes have individual compartments and labels to keep everything super organized, while a simple shoebox type keepsake allows you to see all your baby's favorite firsts when you lift the lid. Petite Keep has personalized trunk options that are beautiful for keeping displayed in your child's bedroom. I've linked a couple my favorite amazon options in the photos below:

What should you put in a keepsake box?

Next you'll want to choose which items you'll keep in your baby's keepsake box. I usually choose a few special items from my pregnancy and baby's first year. Here's a few ideas:

  • Ultrasound photos
  • Maternity photos
  • Hospital bracelets
  • Bassinet crib tag from the hospital
  • Fresh 48 photo of baby in the hospital
  • Baby's first outfit, or a favorite outfit from the newborn stage
  • Any special personalized items (like a hat/swaddle with baby's name embroidered on it)
  • Baby announcement card
  • Newborn photo prints or mini keepsake album
  • First lovey/stuffed animal
  • First shoes
  • Baby book/pregnancy journal (Promptly are my favorites!)

Here's a peek at some items inside my daughter's keepsake box including her first little shoes, her hospital bracelet, crib tag, baby announcement card we sent out, and her first little preemie onesie that she was wearing in her announcement photo.

I just love the nostalgia of having a photo along with some of the physical items in the photo! She wore these preemie onesies for so long and it really brings back all the memories of holding my tiny 5 pound baby girl. You can see more from her Fresh 48 session here, and her simple first birthday celebration here.
